Why I am on my journey.
I have never liked walking, so this is a real challenge for me.
Up to 20 years ago one used to hear of people being senile or had lost their memory. Now it is recognised that dementia is a serious condition and we have more understanding of the problem. When people I have known for over 30 years develop dementia it really touches my heart. I could cry for the sufferers and their families. It is so painful to see and makes me sad that I cannot do anything to make the people better.
About 30 years ago a friend took me to see her father who suffered from dementia in a home. All the patients were in the same way and it was so sad to see how undignified their condition was. In so many cases the families are tied in with the sufferer and have no quality of life
